Flower Fairies of the Spring
This piece continues the tradition of Cicely Mary Barker’s Flower Fairies series, which paired each flower with its own spirit and character. It is not a story with a plot, but an entire world of flowers and their fairies. What drew me was the belief that every plant, however ordinary, possesses its own spirit and life. I wanted to paint a flower fairy of spring.
I wanted to capture the unreserved vitality of spring: not a specific emotion, but the sheer momentum of all things waking and growing. I let flowers, vines, and the fairy stretch, curl, and leap freely across the frame, making the whole image as exuberant as spring itself. This time, I wanted to express not deep meaning, but pure, immediate life force.
