BEYOND THE MASK

This project presents a contemporary branding concept inspired by Nuo Opera, a traditional ritual performance from Guizhou, China. It reinterprets Nuo masks and ritual characters as a modern visual identity rooted in intangible cultural heritage. The concept centers on key Nuo figures, each symbolizing protection, justice, and blessing. Traditional symbolism is translated into bold, expressive illustration and graphic language. Designed to be immersive, vibrant, and approachable, the visual system aims to engage a broad and younger audience while respecting the ritual origins of Nuo culture. Deliverables include character-driven illustrations and editorial style layouts for cultural branding and print applications.
