Hamlet
I wanted to tell this story from Ophelia’s perspective. In this tragedy, most characters are destroyed by their own choices. Hamlet chooses revenge, Claudius chooses murder, Laertes chooses vengeance. Yet Ophelia never makes a single choice. Used by her father, rejected by Hamlet, torn between love and family, she has no agency over her own fate. She is destroyed not through any fault of her own, but simply because she was there.
What I wanted to paint is the moment of her death, rendered not as frightening but as beautiful and calm. She lies in the stream, flowers drifting beside her, carried away by water, as peaceful as if asleep. What makes this moment profound is that it is the only choice she ever makes for herself in the entire story.
